Golden Milk is a simple to prepare, delicious and nourishing drink which allows us to get the benefits of turmeric and curcumin, in a natural way. Golden Milk is often referred to as a turmeric latte.
With a subtle hint of natural spices including cinnamon, honey and black pepper, Golden Milk has a beautiful and striking golden colour. When combined with premium coconut milk, Golden Milk becomes a delicious turmeric beverage.
Golden Milk is caffeine free and a healthy alternative to coffees and teas and can be consumed as your daily beverage. Not only is it good for you, Golden Milk actually tastes great too!
Why is Turmeric such an important part of Golden Milk?
Turmeric is the ingredient that gives Golden Milk both its golden colour and golden soul.
It has long history in natural medicinal use dating back 4,000 years.
Curcumin is the active ingredient which makes turmeric such a great natural product.
Modern medicine recognises Turmeric’s importance through more than 3,000+ articles, most of which have been written over the last 25 years.
Turmeric is similar in appearance to Ginger and is the product of Curcuma Longa, a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the ginger family.
It has high quantities of the important bioactive compound curcumin.
In North India, Turmeric is known as Haldi Ka Doodh and Golden Milk is often referred to as Haldi Milk too.
The Indian system of holistic medicine is known as ‘Ayurveda’, which uses mainly plant based drugs to treat various ailments in many parts of the world. Golden Milk is also known as Ayurveda Milk.
Turmeric is derived from the Latin Word “terra merita” (meritous earth).
In Sanskrit, Turmeric has over 53 different names, including bhadra (auspicious or lucky), laxmi (prosperity), mehagni (killer of fat), shiva (gracious).
In English, it is easy to understand why it is simply called Golden Milk.

Why do we use Coconut Milk?
Because coconuts are highly nutritious and rich in fibre, vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 and minerals including iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous.
They are high in fat, but … its generally considered good fat.
Coconuts contain medium chain saturated fatty acids (MCFAs) and in particular, one called lauric acid. Lauric acid is converted in the body into a highly beneficial compound called monolaurin.
Monolaurin is a natural antiviral and antibacterial.
It is now thought that consumption of coconut milk may also help protect the body.
For these reason and the fact that it gives our Golden Milk a silky smooth texture and delicious taste, we use coconut milk. Not only that, it means if you’re lactose intolerant, it’s great for you too.
Why do we add honey, cinnamon and black pepper?
Honey is known to have antibacterial and antifungal properties. It has been used in Ayurvedic medicine in India for at least 4,000 years, and apart from being a natural sweetner, most people agree, it just tastes great too.
Cinnamon is a know have natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
In extract form, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and antioxidants are isolated. These compounds make cinnamon one of the most beneficial spices on earth.
Black Pepper is also know to have natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
It is a rich source of manganese, iron, potassium, vitamin-C, vitamin K and dietary fibre.
Most importantly, it enhances Bioavailability. What this means to you is that Black pepper helps in transporting the benefits of curcumin to different parts of the body, maximizing the efficiency of absorption.
